Tokyo - Harajuku: Takeshita-dori - Boutique Takenoko
Boutique Takenoko, a mainstay on Takeshita-dori given that 1978, received notoreity with the Takenko-zoku (竹の子族), actually the "bamboo shoot tribe", a dance ground energetic in Harajuku from the the mid 1970s to the mid 1980s. The teenagers, mainly ladies but usually with one boy foremost, wore colorful outfits from this cosplay shop and carried out a distincitve dance to disco tunes coming from moveable stereos.
Takeshita Dori (竹下通り), or Takeshita Road, is the symbol of Harajuku. The 400-meter lengthy, pedestrian only road is lined with shops, boutiques, cafes, and quick meals shops focusing on Tokyo’s teens. The outlets on this street are usually a bellwether for broader fads, and some are recognized as "antenna shops," which companies seed with prototypes for test-advertising and marketing.
