September 2010 six:30pm-8pm
Venue: Paper Costume Boutique, 114-116. Curtain Highway, Shoreditch EC2A 3AH

The venue is a beautiful classic garments store/cafe called Paper Costume Boutique. So we supported an independant company by crafting in their cafe with a cup of tea and cake :)

As element of our ongoing commitment to exposing social injustice, the Collective are contributing to Norwegian artist Lise Bjørne Linnert’s present project, entitled DESCONOCIDA Mysterious UKJENT.

The project makes use of the artwork of embroidery to highlight and protest again...st human trafficking and femicide, particularly in the metropolis of Ciudad Juarez on the Mexican border. Because 1993, 800 ladies have been brutally murdered in Ciudad Juarez and hundreds much more have long gone missing, although the Mexican federal government turns a blind eye. Prostitution in the region has improved four hundred% in the identical time period of time.

We embroidered the title of one murdered girl on each label alongside the word “unknown”, in remembrance of the hundreds of unknown victims of comparable crimes around the world. The project is a mass act of solidarity. So far, 2100 folks in 27 nations around the world have embroidered more than 4000 labels. The Craftivist Collective will add to that figure and help to spread consciousness of these atrocities.

An set up of the labels will be on present at PALLANT Home GALLERY in Chichester in October 2010. If you would like to get labels to make your very own contribution, get in touch with Pallant Property straight.

For four weeks following the function we also have prints of our Mini Protest Banners about the store and in the window screen with some first banners as properly as obtaining an region to promote Mini Protest Banner kits and postcards on the concept of justice inside the vogue sector. Alongside aspect are War on Want methods on their 'Love Style Hate Sweatshops' marketing campaign (such as badges, stickers, petitions and reports)
